PORSCHE TUNING / KEITH FIELDS

Classic character.
Modern control.

From a COBB-equipped modern Porsche to a Kinsler-equipped air-cooled engine, I build the calibration around how the car needs to drive. My work includes vintage Porsche engine setup, 964-based 4.0-liter projects and modern ECU integration using MaxxECU, Emtron Shadow and MoTeC.

Starting, idle, transient throttle response and predictable power delivery all matter. Above all, the driving experience is paramount; no number replaces how the complete car feels.

MODERN PORSCHE / COBB ACCESSPORT

A tune for your Porsche.

I offer custom tuning for supported Porsche COBB applications. We start with your exact vehicle, Accessport, fuel and hardware, then agree on the right approach: remote e-tuning, a dyno session or further setup work.

911

COBB lists selected Carrera, Turbo and GT3 applications across multiple generations, including 991 and 992. Generation, trim, model year and ECU support determine fitment.

Boxster & Cayman

Selected 987.2, 981 and 718 applications, including specific 4.0-liter variants. Confirm your exact model and device before ordering.

Macan & PDK

Selected Macan applications and PDK products are available. PDK transmission support is checked separately from engine tuning.

Coverage reference: COBB’s Porsche catalog, checked October 8, 2026. A catalog listing does not by itself confirm custom-tuning access for every ECU or software version. I verify your combination before payment.

AIR-COOLED PORSCHE / RESTORATIONS & RECREATIONS

Preserve the character.
Refine the response.

My vintage Porsche experience includes supporting Kinsler products on 964-based 4.0-liter engines and consulting with Ed Pink Racing Engines on engine-management calibration. These projects bring the engine, throttle system, fuel delivery and ECU together as one working combination.

For a restoration or recreation, the conversation starts with how you want to use the car. A responsive road engine and a competition-focused combination can need different behavior. I consider the engine specification, drivetrain, tires and intended conditions alongside the power target.

Kinsler throttle systems

Calibration support for the installed induction and throttle arrangement, including individual throttle bodies. Cable linkage and drive-by-wire require different setup work; I establish which system is fitted before defining the scope.

Drive-by-wire integration

Pedal and throttle setup, response and the available control strategy are considered together. The aim is a predictable relationship between your input and the engine’s response.

Fueling & drivability

Injector configuration, starting, warm-up, idle and transient fueling are part of the work. Advanced fueling strategies are selected around the engine, sensors, fuel system and ECU capabilities.

FROM MY AWD TUNING DYNO ARCHIVE

Porsche experience.
Recorded on the dyno.

I personally tuned all four of these Porsches through COBB during my work at AWD Tuning. Most used bolt-on modifications; the dated Mustang Dynamometer reports below record their individual results. Each figure below is the report’s maximum power with its stated WCF correction. They are individual results, not a promised output for another car.

2014 911 Turbo S

April 17, 2019
Baseline: 510.0 hp
Revised tune: 543.0 hp

The paired reports record a 33.0 hp increase in peak power during the same day’s session. Peak values occur at different engine speeds; this is not a gain measured at one fixed RPM.

2002 911 / 996

October 1, 2020
Recorded maximum: 563.8 hp at 6,718 rpm

I calibrated this 3.6-liter 2002 Porsche 911 through COBB.

2016 Macan GTS

November 29, 2021
Recorded maximum: 374.0 hp at 6,178 rpm

A 3.0-liter Macan GTS example from the archive, extending the Porsche experience beyond the 911.

2018 911 Turbo S

April 6, 2026
Recorded maximum: 624.9 hp at 6,292 rpm

A 3.8-liter 2018 911 Turbo S, tuned through COBB on 93-octane fuel.

Results are from the original AWD Tuning Mustang Dynamometer reports and dated to each run. These are corrected chassis-dyno figures, not factory crankshaft ratings. Hardware, fuel and test conditions affect the result; compare each car within the context of its own setup.

HANDS-ON PORSCHE EXPERIENCE

Different systems.
The same attention to detail.

964 4.0 / Emtron Shadow

I calibrated this Ed Pink 964-based 4.0-liter engine with Kinsler cable throttle and Emtron Shadow 8 management. This particular build used cable throttle only.

MaxxECU / Kinsler DBW

I tuned a large-cam Porsche 964 engine using MaxxECU and Kinsler drive-by-wire, refining injector setup, fueling and throttle behavior.

MoTeC / Porsche integration

I also tuned a different Porsche 964 engine with street-sized cams, using MoTeC management and Kinsler dual drive-by-wire control.

Explore MoTeC tuning →

The MaxxECU and MoTeC projects were two different 964 engines: the MaxxECU build used large cams, while the MoTeC build used street-sized cams. I calibrated both, tailoring the approach to each engine’s specification and intended driving experience.

OWNERS, RESTORATION SHOPS & ENGINE BUILDERS

Bring the project together.

I work directly with owners and shops to plan calibration, resolve engine-management issues and coordinate dyno sessions. Worldwide travel tuning is available by arrangement. ECU sales and packages can be scoped around the project.

  1. Send the specification: chassis, engine displacement, build details, induction, throttle system, injectors, fuel and ECU.
  2. Describe the starting point: running condition, current calibration, wiring documentation, available sensors, logs and the behavior you want to improve.
  3. Plan the session: your location, builder or installer, dyno facilities and whether you need remote support or an in-person visit.

Porsche standalone projects, equipment and travel are individually quoted. Pricing and delivery timing are agreed for your scope before payment.

PORSCHE TUNING FAQ

Choose the right route.

Can a vintage 964 use the same COBB service as a modern Porsche?

No. The vintage engines described here use a separately installed standalone ECU. Modern COBB tuning depends on a supported factory ECU and matching Accessport. Send the installed system details so I can identify the right service.

Do I need drive-by-wire for a Kinsler-equipped engine?

Not necessarily. My experience includes cable-throttle and DBW configurations. The appropriate setup depends on the installed hardware and your goals; a DBW conversion is a separate project, not an assumed part of a tune.

Can you support an engine builder or restoration shop?

Yes. I can work with your builder or shop on engine-management planning, calibration and dyno coordination. Send the specification and available facilities so we can define responsibilities and the session plan.

Does a COBB product listing guarantee you can custom-tune my car?

No. I confirm the exact year, trim, market, transmission, ECU software and device support before taking payment. PDK support and licensing are checked separately.

What will the engine make?

Output depends on the complete engine, fuel and test conditions. We agree on useful performance goals and evaluate the response and drivability as well as the dyno result.
