ENGINE MANAGEMENT / KEITH FIELDS
Emtron ECU tuning.
A capable ECU is only the beginning. I work through the engine, sensors and control strategy to develop a car that responds predictably to the driver. My Emtron work includes Subaru development and street-oriented performance builds.

MY APPROACH
Build the calibration around the car.
Throttle and boost working together
Tell me where the car needs to be competitive and how you use it between full-load runs. I consider transient throttle response, boost delivery and the relationship between driver input and engine output, within the capabilities of your installed system.
Power that suits the complete car
Tires, suspension, drivetrain, fuel and intended conditions help define the plan. A peak number alone cannot tell us whether the car delivers the experience you want.
I hold EFI University certificates for both standard and advanced Emtron training. That education complements hands-on development, including my own white 2015 STI.
DOCUMENTED EXPERIENCE
The ultimate GT STI: more than peak power
Lucas Bamford’s STI is a useful example of my approach: consider how the car responds, how boost relates to throttle demand and where its power is useful. The build uses Emtron management, and its dedicated page follows the hardware and dated dyno history.
Explore Lucas’s Emtron STI ↗What to send before we start.
- Vehicle and engine: model, displacement, engine work, turbo or supercharger, transmission and intended use.
- Management system: exact ECU, firmware/software, current calibration and known access restrictions. Do not send passwords.
- Fuel and sensors: injectors, pumps, regulator, fuel type, wideband controller and available pressure or temperature sensors.
- Current condition: whether it runs, known faults, wiring documentation and sample logs if available.
- Working arrangement: your location, installer or dyno shop, available equipment and whether you need setup, diagnosis or a complete tune.
I confirm compatibility, measurement requirements, scope and pricing before payment. Standalone work is quoted individually; the standard Subaru $400 e-tune package does not automatically cover it.
EMTRON TUNING FAQ
Plan the work before buying parts.
Does EFI University training mean this is an Emtron factory certification?
My stated qualification is EFI University standard and advanced Emtron training. It is not a claim of manufacturer certification or endorsement.
Can you work with an existing Emtron calibration?
Send the ECU model, software details, current configuration and a description of what needs improving. I confirm access and scope before agreeing to work; an existing file is not proof that the hardware and sensor configuration are correct.
Can this be tuned remotely or at my local dyno shop?
Send your location, facility and equipment details. I assess whether remote work is appropriate or whether an in-person session is the better fit. Worldwide travel sessions are quoted around the project and facility; submitting an inquiry does not reserve a date.
What does a wideband contribute?
I need usable mixture data alongside the engine information requested for the project. Tell me how the wideband controller is connected and logged. An installed display alone does not confirm that the necessary data is available.
Does engine protection replace mechanical checks?
No. Any configured protection depends on suitable sensors, correct readings and the available ECU strategy. Mechanical condition and installation still need verification; a calibration cannot guarantee against failure.
Tell me what you are building.
Include the ECU model and the behavior you want to improve, from starting and idle to throttle response, boost delivery and performance under load.

Classic engines.
Modern engine management.
My experience also includes setting up vintage Porsche engines with MoTeC, Emtron and MaxxECU management. This work brings modern control to classic platforms, including drive-by-wire integration and advanced fueling strategies, with attention to starting, drivability and the character of the engine.
For vintage restorations and recreations, I consider the complete combination: engine hardware, fuel delivery, throttle system, sensors and how the owner wants the car to behave. The management system and available features need to suit that particular build.
Send the engine specification, ECU model, existing hardware and your goals so I can review the project and confirm the scope.
