ENGINE MANAGEMENT / KEITH FIELDS

MoTeC ECU tuning.

MoTeC tuning starts with understanding the installed ECU and its configuration. I review the engine, fuel system, sensors and available control strategy before developing the calibration around the way the vehicle will be used.

MY APPROACH

Build the calibration around the car.

ECU model and package matter

For an M1 application, send the ECU model and installed package details. MoTeC describes M1 Tune as its M1 calibration software, adapting to the features exposed by the package. An ECU model name alone does not establish which functions are available.

Calibration and firmware development are different work

Changes within an available calibration are not the same as developing a new firmware package. I confirm file access, available functions and the requested scope before quoting; this page does not promise custom M1 Build development or support for every package.

The build demonstrates the depth of a developed project. Its output is not a forecast for another WRX or a substitute for evaluating your engine and fuel system.

DOCUMENTED EXPERIENCE

Armando’s white 2015 WRX

Armando’s FA20 project connects my engine-program work with standalone calibration. The archive documents a 591-awhp dyno session in 2018 and separately records the later 666-whp MoTeC configuration from my firsthand account. These are different development milestones, not interchangeable specifications.

What to send before we start.

I confirm compatibility, measurement requirements, scope and pricing before payment. Standalone work is quoted individually; the standard Subaru $400 e-tune package does not automatically cover it.

MOTEC TUNING FAQ

Plan the work before buying parts.

Do you support every MoTeC ECU and M1 package?

Support is reviewed individually. Send the model, package or firmware details, current file-access situation and your goals so I can confirm what work is possible.

Will my WRX make the same power as Armando’s?

That result belongs to its particular engine, hardware, fuel and test conditions. I assess your combination and intended use rather than promise a matching dyno number.

Can this be tuned remotely or at my local dyno shop?

Send your location, facility and equipment details. I assess whether remote work is appropriate or whether an in-person session is the better fit. Worldwide travel sessions are quoted around the project and facility; submitting an inquiry does not reserve a date.

What does a wideband contribute?

I need usable mixture data alongside the engine information requested for the project. Tell me how the wideband controller is connected and logged. An installed display alone does not confirm that the necessary data is available.

Does engine protection replace mechanical checks?

No. Any configured protection depends on suitable sensors, correct readings and the available ECU strategy. Mechanical condition and installation still need verification; a calibration cannot guarantee against failure.

VINTAGE PORSCHE / RESTORATIONS & RECREATIONS

Classic engines.
Modern engine management.

My experience also includes setting up vintage Porsche engines with MoTeC, Emtron and MaxxECU management. This work brings modern control to classic platforms, including drive-by-wire integration and advanced fueling strategies, with attention to starting, drivability and the character of the engine.

For vintage restorations and recreations, I consider the complete combination: engine hardware, fuel delivery, throttle system, sensors and how the owner wants the car to behave. The management system and available features need to suit that particular build.

Send the engine specification, ECU model, existing hardware and your goals so I can review the project and confirm the scope.
